Create a Room Group

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Room groups allow admins to define and manage sets of rooms that can be reused across housing cycles, especially for student staff assignments. By grouping rooms together — such as a cluster of suites, a wing, or a floor — admins can simplify how rooms are assigned, reused, and adjusted over time. This is particularly helpful for assigning Resident Assistants or Peer Mentors to oversee specific areas.

Room groups act as reusable templates that reduce repetitive work and provide flexibility when staffing models or building layouts evolve.

Access Room Groups

Navigate to the Student Staff section of the admin portal.

Click Room Groups from the sidebar.

Any previously created room groups will appear here. These can be edited at any time to reflect changes in staff structure or building use.

Create a Room Group

Enter a name for the group that clearly describes its purpose (e.g., “North Tower - 3rd Floor” or “Suites A–D”).

Click the ➕ icon to start selecting rooms.

Add Rooms to the Group

Select one or more buildings that contain the rooms you want to group.

Click Next to continue.

Choose the rooms from within those buildings you want included.

Edit a Room Group

Click the ⋮ (three-dot icon) next to the room group name and select Edit Group.

Click the ➕ icon to add or remove rooms.

After updating the selection, click ➕ Add/Update to save changes.

Assign a Room Group to Student Staff

After a room group is created, it can be assigned to a student staff member. Changes to a room group do not automatically update past assignments. This ensures previously assigned group data remains unchanged for reporting or historical reference. Learn more about assigning rooms/groups to student staff.
