Configure Application Settings

Last updated: August 28, 2026

Setting up application settings in a housing cycle ensures that the process is streamlined for both administrators and students. This step allows administrators to define the application form, roommate questionnaire, rulesets, and other key details like applicant limits, roommate group sizes, and checklist items, providing flexibility to meet specific housing policies.

In the application form field, choose the appropriate application form that will be used for this housing cycle.  Application forms can be used across unlimited cycles.

From the Application Form dropdown, select an application form that will be used for this housing cycle. Application forms can be used across unlimited cycles.

Note: This dropdown will show all published application forms. If you do not see your form, ensure it is published.

From the Ruleset dropdown, select a previously created ruleset that you want to apply to this housing cycle. Rulesets can be utilized across unlimited cycles.

In the Roommate Questionnaire field, select the questionnaire that will be used for this cycle. Questionnaire forms can be utilized across unlimited cycles.

Note: If selected, students will be prompted to complete this questionnaire during the housing application. If none is selected, no additional roommate-related questions will appear.

Define the Maximum Applicants allowed for this housing cycle. This field sets a cap on the number of applicants that can apply for the cycle through the Resident Portal. If left as Unlimited, there is no cap.

Choose between

Optimize (if one member has all the necessary applicability tags, the group can select)

Keep Standard (all members must meet the tag criteria to select as a group).

Example: If a room selection phase is set up for Honors students, and a single Honors-tagged student is in a roommate group with students who do not have the Honors tag, Optimize will allow the entire group to select a room in the Honors phase because at least one member of the group has the required Honors tag. On the other hand, Keep Standard would prevent the entire group from selecting in the Honors phase unless all members of the group have the Honors tag, aligning with stricter room selection policies.

Set the Minimum and Maximum Number of Roommates allowed for a group.

Example: If the Minimum Number of Roommates is set to 2 and the Maximum Number of Roommates is set to 4, a group must have at least 2 roommates to proceed with room selection, but no more than 4 roommates can be added to the group. This setting helps ensure that roommate groups stay within the desired size range for available housing units.

Click Add Item to add checklist tasks for application reviewers, like verifying housing deposit payments.
