Create and Edit Moving Groups (Housing Cycle)

Last updated: August 28, 2026

Moving groups are pre-defined sections of students who are scheduled to move into or out of housing on a specific date in a time range.
This page will teach you how to create, edit, and duplicate moving groups. Institutions can define one or multiple moving groups for each housing cycle. Following is a video walkthrough of an overview of moving groups.

Steps to Create, Edit, and Duplicate Moving Groups

1. To access moving groups, click Settings. Next, click Housing Cycles and open the appropriate cycle.
2. Once you choose your desired moving group, the first step would be setting up move-in or move-out instructions.
  • General instructions: These will be provided to all students, regardless which moving group they are in
Create each moving group by clicking Edit in the Moving Groups section, then click New Group. For each group, you specify:
  • Group Name
  • Start Date and time for move
  • End Date and time for move
  • Building (optional)
  • Max number of students who may be in that group (optional)
  • Whether students will select the moving group themselves or whether they will be assigned a group
  • Tag limiters: If a student must have a specific tag in order to participate in this moving group, add the tag or tags
  • Specific Instructions for this moving group only
  • Checklist for Student Staff performing a check-in for a student in this moving group: When a student staff member (like a T.A.) or housing admin conducts a check-in process for a student in this moving group, they will be presented with the checklist items you set up here. Examples might be Check state I.D. or Give a school welcome tote bag.

Once you have set up your first moving group, you may add another by clicking Add Group, or you can click Duplicate to make 1 or multiple duplicates of the current moving group. This allows you to quickly create many groups and then simply edit those items (like the moving-group specific instructions) that differ from group to group.
